Two Notes

Wednesday, 14. December 2011 18:11

If you listen close enough,

you can feel the energy of the Universe in the first two notes of every song.

And in the pause that links them as one.

It is in those moments, when my attention has shifted, that my heart swells with joy.

And I finally allow my heart to sing those notes that my voice can not reach.

Divine Expression

Tuesday, 19. July 2011 9:19

How conscious is any one of us that in this very moment the cosmic process that produced us is now dependent on us to take its next step?

Andrew Cohen

These words are so powerful because in them is the realization that we are the vessel in which the energy of the Divine is fully expressed. It is only through this expression of love, can we experience all that we were meant to be. This is the shortest and surest way to becoming one with the Divine.

There is relief in becoming aware that the only reason you are here is to creatively express love. This results in two options. The first option is the choice involving the full expression of love. The second option is the choice involving the blockage of the full expression of love.

My prayer is that I choose love more than I do not, and that I continue to have the courage to look on the inside to see how I am choosing to block the expression of love. I have found that this has taken courage and determination, and I have not always gotten it “right”, but I can say that I have made progress!

An Inspirational Quote

Sunday, 31. October 2010 13:57

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. Mark Twain

If everybody had to pick a quote that sums up who they are in this world, this would be mine. I absolutely love it. For me, there is nothing more that ever needs to be said. If I am not questioning what I have been taught than I am not thinking for myself and if there is one thing that I am grateful for, it is that my education has taught me to think for myself.

Let’s Start Asking Some Deeper Questions

Thursday, 21. October 2010 19:44

Each time I reduce the amount of the anti-depressant that I am taking, I can feel my body reacting to this reduction by the symptom of increased anxiety. My body then readjusts itself to the new chemical balance and my anxiety subsides. I am nearing the end of my weaning process and for me, I can’t get off of my medication soon enough. It seems hard to intellectualize the reason why, but intuitively being on an antidepressant just doesn’t sit right with me. The option for medication is always on the table, but it is not something that I would choose again without some serious soul-searching.

When I read stats that report that 2/3 of people taking a SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, often called SSRIs, are a group of drugs commonly prescribed for depression and anxiety) are women and in the last twenty years the number of women prescribed antidepressants has risen significantly, it makes me wonder who is benefitting from all these women being medicated. I ask myself, what is occurring in our society when in one year in Canada, 15 million prescriptions were dispensed for SSRIs.

Now I am not saying that I don’t suffer from anxiety and somehow I was tricked into going on an antidepressants. What I am asking is, what is going on in the bigger picture that requires so many women to get to the point where they are at their doctor’s offices leaving with a prescription for a drug that is made up of a potent brain chemical. We trust our doctor’s, but are they even aware of the problem or are they just puppets for a larger system? These are the types of questions I am digging the answers for. I will let you know what I find out.

Wisdom Through Time

Sunday, 12. September 2010 16:08

Do you ever feel like you are running after perfection and just like a hamster on a wheel, you feel like you are running around in a circle not really getting anywhere. I feel like this often. I keep trying to catch the elusive moment when everything on the outside is in its proper place, so I can relax on the inside. I have come to realize that this will never happen until I am a little old lady, alone in my personal care home apartment reminiscing about the best years of my life when I had a young family. This is when it will be quiet, too quiet, and everything will be in its place but I think I just might be too lonely to appreciate the irony of what I have wished for and it finally coming true.

Is this the moment I am rushing around like a chicken with my head cut off to achieve, when I finally can sit down in peace and quiet in a job well done but only to have myself to celebrate the moment with? I think that this moment would be called my last breath because it is only when life has ended is the job completed. Maybe the key to happiness is learning to enjoy the process of living while you are actually living. Is this really a possibility?

I always imagine myself as that little old lady, rocking in her rocking chair, giving the younger me sound advice on the life she has lived. I imagine this would include what she might regret and what she wishes she did more of. Or what she might wish she would have been easier on herself for. I sometimes feel her wisdom coming through time as she prays that I will learn the lesson of slowing down sooner in life than she did. When I close me eyes at night after a hard day, I sometimes think I can hear her whisper, “Job well done. Now take a breath and go enjoy your family”.

An Inspirational Quote by Martin Luther King, Jr.

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.

Feel It All

Tuesday, 24. August 2010 17:42

In order to feel the most joy we can ever imagine, we have to open ourselves up to the possibility of feeling every emotion available to us as human beings. Emotions lie on a continuum, like the colors of the rainbow, and to appreciate the magnificent beauty of the whole rainbow you must see all of its glorious colours. We have a choice, we can cut ourselves off from our emotions or we can feel it all. I choose to feel it all.

Namaste.
